Hello From Katie, Sam,Josh, &Collin!
We're supposed to find stuff we have in common, so we figured out that the girls have stuff in common, and the guys have stuff in common, but the girls and the guys have nothing in common. Ok, we have the basic things in common like we all go to school, and we all have the same teacher for science, but thats as deep as it gets. I guess we'll have to get past that to work together on labs. I guess you could call us the differents. But anyway our page will be about our adventures in Chemistry. Read & Enjoy!!

We have to choose three sports, and identifiy chemical bonds in each of them. So we chose Swimming, Fencing, and Softball. When you swim, you are in water, and water is a a covalent bond between hydrogen and oxygen. Fencing requires foils, which are metal, meaning their is a metallic bond involved. Softball often causes injury so many players get casts and the materials of a cast form an ionic bond. 5-21-08
We are putting our work for our white page Interview with an Electron on our wikipages. We get a few words from the electron and we have to determine what kind of bond it is, and what the characteristics are.
Interview: My buddies and I do not feel bound to the energy level of one atom in particular, so week can swim freely thoughout the substance.
Type of Bond: Metallic
Characteristics: In Metallic bonding the outer energy levels overlap allowing the valence electrons to "swim" throughout the metal. Metals are highly conductive, ductile, and malleable.
Interview: I might change sides at the start, but once I end up on one side or the other I stick to my decision.
Type of Bond: Ionic
Characteristics: The electrons in Ionic bond are transferred between two atoms. The atom that gains the electron becomes a negative ion, and the atom that loses the electron becomes a positive ion. Ionic bonding usually occurs between metals and nonmetals.
Interview: I do not feel partial to either of the atoms in my bond. To be fair , the other bonding electron and I divide our time between the bonded atoms.
Type of Bonds: Covalent
Characteristics:Covalently bonded atoms form a particle called a molecule, which is the smallest compund with the chemical properties of a compound.Covalent bonds occur between the atoms of two or more nonmetals.

5-8-2008 Today we are reaserching substances to be used in a lab we are doing and since it is very dangerous to work with chemicals with unknown properties we are doing research first.
Here's a link to a great website about Water .Water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, and boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a high specific heat index, so it can absorb a lot of heat before it gets warm. Water also has a high surface tension, meaning it is very sticky and elasticy.

Hello, its Katie! I'm going to talk a little about the lab we're doing today. We've started off by watching a video another class made when they were playing the game Blockhead as a physics experiment. Experimenting with Blockhead teaches us about the laws of physics, and things like the center of gravity. The center of gravity must always be supported for an object to balance, and each object has a different center of gravity. My Mom always jokes that it's harder to knock short people over because theyhave a lower center of gravity. (She's pretty short.)

Blockhead again today, The first day Katie was the table champion, but today Josh won. One the first day Sam got 4th place, Collin got 3rd place, Josh got 2nd place and Katie got 1st. The second day Sam got 4th place, Katie got 3rd, Collin got 2nd, and Josh got 1st. I wonder what we're going to do tomorrow.

We're going over the Reading Check, its seems like people either did really well or really bad. I personally didn't do so great but thats alright. Once we get through this we are going to continue the Blockhead tournament, and we're going to do the Egg Bunjee Jump. It sounds like a lot of fun, but if some people don't stop messing around we won't get to it. :-( From what the other class said on the way out the lab is really fun, and I suppose if things go wrong it could get very messy. I also hear something about marshmallow catapults later this week; I think it would be awesome if we had a little catapult war with half the class on one side of the room and the othe half on the other side. Then each side would have to use their knowledge of the laws of physics to fling marshmallows at the other side. That would be sooooo much fun! And it would be VERY educational! Alright, enough writing for today, I'm going to take some more notes. WML!

Today we are doing egg bunjee jumping, our egg is Jack William Eggbert III. He was born on June 11th, 2008 in his short time in this world he has discovered a love of extreme sports. Unfortunately he is extremely fragile, so he must be well protected during his stunts. Today he is going to bunjee jump off Blacktable Heights, we must ensure that he is secured in his baggie, and that his bunjee cords will not snap, or allow him to hit the cliff or the canyon bottom. Hopefully he will survive, we would be devastated if we lost him. :-( His best friend is a piece of bacon named Jimmy, they are an inseparable duo, Bacon and Egg. Jack likes pasta with our special Marinara sauce, he always fills up on it after a long day of bunjee jumping, skydiving, whitewater rafting, mountain climbing, or cliff diving. Today he is entering a competition against the other eggs to see who can bunjee jump the closest to the ground, Bacon and the four of us will be cheering him on! GO JACK! YOU DA EGG!
